Abstract

This article aims at studying a set of Moroccan prints whose structure and interpretive strategies play an important function within Moroccan culture while activating, maintaining and constructing its memory and ideology. The article focuses on the relation between the prints in question and the dominant texts in Moroccan culture, notably the Quran and the Halqua. Following the method set by Lotman’s Semiotics of culture, this analysis sheds light on the determinant role that such prints play on the maintenance of various cultural beliefs, such as those concerning gender and superstition.
