Giovanna Cosenza

After a degree in philosophy, she took a Ph.D in Semiotics under the supervision of Umberto Eco at the University of Bologna, where she became a permanent researcher in 2000. Today she is an associate professor in the Department of Disciplines of Communication of the University of Bologna.

Since 2001 she has been teaching Semiotics and Semiotics of the New Media for the "Laurea triennale" in Sciences of Communication of the University of Bologna, and she has been holding fundamental courses within the masters in Communication at the Alma Graduate School of the University of Bologna. From 2005 to 2008 she held courses on Effective Writing for the "Laurea specialistica" in Semiotic Disciplines. Since 2008 she has been teaching Semiotics of consumption for the "Laurea magistrale" in Semiotics, and since November 2009 she has been the president of the "Laurea magistrale" itself.

Amongst her writings, the books "La pragmatica di Paul Grice" (Bompiani, 2002) and "Semiotica dei nuovi media" (Laterza, 2008). She is also the editor of "Semiotica della comunicazione politica" (Carocci, 2007).
